I mentioned the flatterers on an earlier page, but I didn't offer an explanation in this comments section.

According to Dante, the eighth circle of hell is reserved for panderers, seducers, and flatterers. Flatterers are condemned to be buried up to their neck in excrement. It's supposed to symbolize the nature of what they said to people while they were alive. Most of Dante's poetic metaphors are straightforward, but I think this example is the one that takes the cake.

Regardless, I get the impression that "shoveler in the flatterer pit" would be an unpopular task for a demon. Putting Madame Satan in there would make her unhappy and provide her with some motivation for her next appearance.

That may not be for a little while though. I promised myself that I would introduce at least ten candidates for recurring villains before I gave any bad guys a return appearance. I still have a few more to go before I can reuse anybody.
